a good, catholic girl

My mom thought I was a good, Catholic girl because I loved going to Church when our grade school would take us every Friday. It's true, I did like it but it was because it would take me away from a boring class. If it counts, I loved the music, singing the song "let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me...." and listening to the homily because it was always inspiring :)

After 12 years of Catholic school, I've decided that it's not for me entirely. I take many things from it, as well as from other sources and weave myself into a spiritiual individual that knows no boundaries. I believe all faiths have many things to offer.

"There are hundreds of paths up the mountain,
all leading in the same direction,
so it doesn't matter which path you take.
The only one wasting time is the one
who runs around and around the mountain,
telling everyone else that their path is wrong."

You know I was thinking of this exact same thing last night! (I'm a product of Catholic education too.)

I think what you describe is the only wise outlook to have these days. All the religions are full of stuff that is out of date today and very limited to the one ancient, inner-looking culture each happened to be then. Now we know so much more about reality than they did in those days, and we can see all cultures all over the world so easily. So the only sensible way of looking at them is to give each it's share of due, and pick and choose things from each that you think makes sense. Good post!

i feel pretty much the same way. i was raised catholic but just cannot have faith in all the things that you are supposed to believe in in order to be a good catholic. i think ritual is important which is why catholiscm appeals to me but i just can't sign on to the whole program. guess i'm going to hell. :)

salvation comes in a lot of different packages. we just have to be astute enough to realize what kind we want to unwrap. enlightening post. i can totally relate being a catholic schoolgirl and all, too.
