i can not get closer
or walk away
from this gift
that illuminates
the room
i'm standing in.
...
...
i want to stay and admire your beauty
unravel the story behind the colors
and discover why i'm so captivated
by your presence.
...
...
this mysteriousness
has seduced me
and tempted me
to untie the red bow
that confines you
and peal the layers
that surround you
and conceal you
so that i can feel you.
...
...
but i know that the timing isn't right
so instead i encircle you with my eyes
examining every angle in hopes
of finding what you hide.
...
...
i don't dare
i don't dare
get closer
because i don't
want to read
the tag which
could declare
that you belong
to someone else.
...
...
that you were just a gift
i was meant to adore
but never to unwrap
and keep as mine.

Hope you all have a Merry Christmas!!
Happy Holidays, Lorena!
Hope it's a wonderful one.
You've unhatched a nice poem here and it does a subtle dance with your words. Hope your gifts are as wonderful on the inside as they look from the outside. Merry Christmas! Keep that gift under wraps until the perfect time, then make it yours.
Oh I loved the ending! So tender! :-)
Merry X-mas Lorena! :-)
Hi lorena! Beautiful poem.
A merry Xmas and a happy new year for you and the family. Have fun!
Love always.
nice poem..
Merry Christmas :)
Clever, Lorena. Avoiding the tag is easy, but knowing you, you 'll read it anyway, and only accept the gift that is yours. I know how annoying it can be when someone says, "the right one will come along". Our sense of "right" is often warped. I'd like to think of it someone who enters our lives to teach us something. We may perceive them as "right" or "wrong", but if you learn from them, then they were "right" at the time.
I really like this poem. It does have a sense of mystery - it's no ordinary gift. You could even take that idea a little further.
And I love the layout.
(I really liked your last poem, too. You're on a roll... Hope it's not too personal and current.)
Hey - have a Wonderful Christmas and a great New Year.
hey MERRY CHRISTMAS ! and have a WONDERFUL YEAR!
merry christmas!! :]
Sometimes you are only allowed to see something and keep whatever feelings you have for that thing you see inside. Like those Prada shoes or Kate Spade bags behind the glass windows that you can't afford, though they're 50% off.
And mermaid, how I cannot agree more with you! That's exactly how I always feel. Whenever we meet someone who can make us breathe faster and turn our knees as weak as jelly, 'our sense of "right" is often warped'. Well said!
i love these lines:
"but i know that the timing isn't right
so instead i encircle you with my eyes
examining every angle in hopes
of finding what you hide."
well said.

This poem is beautiful. It captures the mood of the Indian Giver. Hopefully this Christmas, you got a present, or were with someone, you can actually keep!
I'm glad you visited my blog. You're never behind, I keep everything I've ever posted on the main page for exactly that reason.
thanks for dropping by!!
i did get some intangible gifts which i guess are the priceless kind.
glad to meet another great blogger :)
Great use of metaphore, I don't think I've ever heard of a gift used quite this way! Great poem! Hope the holidays have been great and the New Year will be even better than you can hope for!
I like these lines very much:
"that you were just a gift
i was meant to adore
but never to unwrap
and keep as mine..."
Compelling, Lorena.
